hi,

i have a hoover elite 1205 washing machine. basically works fine in the wash mode, but as soon as it gets into the spin dry cycle, 95% of the time it will go out of balance and cut out, regardless if its half or full load. i have checked the belt, tub mounting which are on a metal frame connected to the base of machine by dampener spring are all intact. there is a gear with a solinoid and arm which seems also ok. when this was new we never hade this problem. any ideas would be appreciated.
thanks Greg

best solution is to remove the out of balance switch, my personal view anyway......

I have seen this so many times!. the bowl is anchored by an alloy plate- after a period(especially if using hot water & detergent/soap powder to wash)- the alloy plate actually dissolves!- with the result seems to be ok but when extra forces as spinning- centrifugal force moves the bowl out of dissolved base- result-bang bang- out of balance activated!. A new plate from Hoover(now Electrolux) cost me $65 4 years ago- probably more now! (Electrolux ain't cheap). Look for same model in tip/street collection- alloy base only fails as I said by using hot water & det- use cold water-will last forever!.

hi bbp1,

thanks for your help, but can you verify where this plate is? is it between the inner and outer bowl or is it attached to the outer bowl?

is a website with similar model exploded views if you can identify the component.
i checked the outer drum is mounted by a triangular plate and mounted by springs to the base all ok.
possibly this item is not visible.

thanks Greg.

Greg I am talking here of top loader washers-are you?. IF so- grab agitator & bowl- should be almost zero movement laterally- if much movement is as I said. The names eg Elite zxxx mean nothing to me or Hoover/Electrux -there is a plate you need to read to get model info. If base plate is what connects bowl to agitator/ motor etc. Other things ; machine level- sol pulling in spin o.k.(tends to s/c)- controller switching ok- level susp springs ok- bal in spin ok.. Or is this a late model micro controlled device?- if so I have no experience with such.

this is a top loader machine with a reversable motor and planetary gearbox for speed reduction.
the bottom chassis plate has a dome pressed in the centre and the tub, gearbox/motor is mounted to another metal housing with also a dome pressed into it at the bottom, these two items fit together and are held into place by 3 springs and retaining bracket. in between these two domes is a plastic damper
plate riveted to the base chassis. this is the part that wears out. grind rivets out and replace with replacement kit with pins part no# H057A. you cannot see this item, but you may be able to see white powder at the base of machine. all ok now, works like new.
