Need some help with this oldie. Anyone have a schematic? It has a startup problem.
When the power switch is pressed in to turn on, it gives a loud blurt from the speakers that sounds like something arcing until you release the button. When you press it again to turn off, it gives the same loud blurt until you release the button. The screen will sometimes light up for a second or so while the switch is depressed.
I've bypassed the mains switch contacts to rule them out. I've also unplugged the degaussing coils to rule out a problem with the posistor. There is an extra set of contacts on the power switch which only close while the switch is fully depresed. I don't know what their function is but they head off in the direction of IC001 which I assume is the microprocessor so they may have something to do with the startup process.
Otherwise, I've checked the ESR of all the electros in the power supply.
Anyone have any ideas where to look next?

Hey bbp1, sticking to the old technology as long as you can, eh? I'm doing likewise, Konka (would you believe it) crt in the lounge. Did get hold of a 42" plasma, but 'she who must be obeyed said 'Get this thing outa here, I cant watch this'. Was sorry I gave my 29" Sony crt away to my bro-in-law. Saw it running the other day - compared to my Konka, Sweet.
Plasma may be a poor technology (in my book) but we still need to service them for a living.
Friend of mine steadfastedly refused to get involved with lcd/plasma but found crt work was drying up fast, and he had to make the quantum leap to earn his crust.
