Customer complaint of poor recorded picture.. Inspection of heads and clean still resulted in poor picture with horizontal streaking on any vertical bright pictures. Any one know if this unit has common power supply faults before I go any further... DVD picture fine

Hi all, this late model unit has E.E ok, but off tape there is nill pic for a while, then it starts to happen with streaks and bars through pic. My guess would be a cap, but if anyone has done one, it may save a bit of time to confirm my idea. Regards. Geoff

Hiya. Pana VCR/DVD combo with VCR deck problems. Deck does odd things, like load up the tape, then try to unload it, then load it again, stop, go into FF mode, eject etc - all totally at random - never seen a VCR do this before, is there such a thing as VCR senility?

Unhealthy noises coming from deck, tape often getting wrapped around the capstan - we're talking a couple of meters here...

Error codes I am getting are H02 and FO6, if that means anything.

Mode switch perhaps?
Doing a bit of a clean up, but the tape sticking to the capstan worries me.

Mitsubishi HS-871V PSU fault.

Yes, I know - not many people bring in VCR's anymore, but this one is a sentemental fix(for the client).

PSU fault, when powered up, odd characters show on the fluro display - just SOME segments of SOME display characters. Unit is otherwise totally dead. I can find 16.48v on D9A1 and deck, 4.29v on D9A2 and deck, -35.3v on D9B3 and deck. So some juice on the cold side, but weather these are normal... There is 16v across the LA6324 quad op-amp power supply pins.

I was about to recap the PSU as a next step, but also wondering if we have a corrupted uCPU due to the wierd lighting of random segments on the fluro.

Anyone else seen this before?
